I know. I've already mentioned how much I love Lee Valley because they carry so many high quality, reasonably priced tools that make my life easier. Among my raving about their other offerings, I forgot to mention that they have lots of options for helping you kneel comfortably and get back up from a kneeling position.
The thing about kneeling in the garden with an a/k prosthesis is that the fake knee is slippery, and also you can't feel where your fake foot goes. You can slip around and also rip out plants behind you without even knowing it. To reduce the slippage, I sometimes wear cheap kneepads. More often I find it simpler to sit with both legs extended and butt-walk backwards up and down the paths of my own garden. That way I can see where my fake leg gets to and I don't have to balance on a slippery fake knee. To get back up, I just roll over into that sprinting position I described in the previous post.
The Lee Valley gardening tools catalog offers knee pads in several styles and prices. For those of you who need help getting up, they also sell kneelers, narrow, lightweight gardening stools with padded surfaces covering the ground where you want your knees to go and handles to help prop you up when you want to rise. One style folds up and even has pockets for your tools.
Forgive me for saying so, but these gadgets really are the bee's knees!
