Today's word is
Such musical onomatopoeia! So perfect for poetry! So exasperating to spell!
Enjoy!
(Oh, even though I'm posting this on Sunday, I changed the date of posting to Saturday so as not to mess up the blog calendar. I'll fill in more blanks either tonight when I get home from work or tomorrow while I lounge pre-work. Heh heh -- lounge. Yeah, right. What is that again?)

So behind! Must finish others today! Meanwhile, at least there's this one:
They say that
scent is the sense
most closely linked
to memory.Sounds, too,
can tell us
to ourselves.
It's like the way
a susurrus of wings
outside any window
will bring back the year
you drilled soffet vents in the eaves
and then didn't cover them
so that starlings flew in
and nested there all summer,
and then the summer after that --
all those broken pale blue shells --
that one day when a male carried
back to some nest up there
a single flower in his yellow beak
and we all hoped
it was a love gift.
We weren't there this summer,
but I always wonder,
I have to wonder,
whenever I hear wings
by any window
whether the new owners
ever blocked up those vents.
Nicely done, Sara, all those w's and sssss's!
