And this, like "paladin," is another word just made for epic poetry.
Personally, I am more familiar with hubris than vainglory. I even dreamed last night about this website and how I was working on it but just couldn't get my HTML to function under TypePad's rules. My targets kept leading people astray. It was neither poetic nor glorious in any way. (sigh) On the other hand I also dreamed I was riding a big, grey, war horse horizontally across vertical cliffs where huge tomatoes grew wild. So. There you have it. A little hubris, a little vainglory, none of it real, and only the absolutely most boring part credible.
How 'bout you? Is there a place for vainglory in any part of your world, conscious or not?

Every now and then I try a little vainglory on for size, but then reality always comes along, slaps me in the face and strips me naked.
