This is a great word, and I daresay a poetic word.  An artistic word even.

Since I have no time for woolgathering today, it will be interesting (to me only, I know) to see if I can find the time to write a poem using it.

woolgathering

stop woolgathering,
they'd say

but she always gathered
so much more than wool

little pitchers have big ears
-- and bottomless eyes --
and gather wool when left in corners

she gathered her wool
  and color and music

every feather that flew by
every harsh word on the wind
  and many sweet ones
every storm on the radio
every fire between lovers
  that threw off sparks
  that others could gather

wool-gathering
star-gathering
idea-gathering
memory-gathering
dream-gathering

the big bank in which
all that wool is gathered
  all that wool that is not wool
is shaped exactly
like her heart
